At 2:54 AM on March 9, 2025, a massive explosion rocked the active Fuego volcano. Volcanic bombs soared hundreds of meters into the air, and a deafening detonation followed! Soon after, the volcano shifted into continuous explosive mode, launching lava fountains, towering ash columns, and pyroclastic flows—all caught on camera!

Since mid-January, Fuego’s eruptive activity had been minimal, despite over 20 years of near-constant activity. But at 2:54 AM on March 9, everything changed. Volcanic bombs blasted out, showering the upper slopes of the volcano, and a striking explosion 26 seconds later made the scene truly unforgettable.

After that first explosion, more blasts followed throughout the day. By 9:00 PM local time, the eruption became relentless, with a 300-meter-high lava fountain lighting up the night. This fountain sent an ash column more than 3 kilometers into the sky, pushed westward by the wind. As a result, villages up to 50 kilometers away could face heavy ash fallout! Moreover, falling debris on the volcano’s slopes triggered small pyroclastic flows in its ravines.
